You can use DSLR cameras to shoot branded photos from our funEvent App

You need these items:

  1. Canon EOS 1300D DSLR camera; it should work with most any recent Canon or Nikon DSLR cameras.
  2. An OTG Android device (USB On-The-Go). Most recent Android tablets supports this protocol.
  3. Cable to connect the camera to the Android device.

The best way to ensure compatibility between these items is to try them out:

1.- The DSLR camera

This should work with most any recent Canon or Nikon DSLR that supports tethered Live-View. A partial list follows. Note that there might be other cameras not on this list that work. And while all cameras on this list should work, we have not tested them all ourselves.

Canon cameras:

SL1, T6, T5, T3, T6s, T6i, T5i, T4i, T3i, T2i, T1i, XSi, XS, 80D, 70D, 60D, 50D, 40D, 7D Mark II, 7D, 6D, 5D Mark III, 5D Mark II, 1DX, 1Ds Mark III, 1Ds Mark II, 1D Mark, IV, 1D Mark III, 1D Mark II

Nikon cameras:

D4S D4 D3X D3S, Df, D810 D800/D800E, D750 D700, D610 D600, D300S, D300, D7200 D7100 D7000, D90 D80, D5500 D5300 D5200 D5100 D5000, D3500 D3300 D3200

Use a fast memory card to prevent your event guests waiting for the camera. Start with a formatted memory card for best results. funEvent App will connect to your camera faster if there are just a few photos on the card (format it, then take one photo).

2. The Android device

The Android device must support OTG (USB On-The-Go). This App OTG Checker

Android App tells if your device supports OTG. We recommend:

– Android devices or tablets with at least 4 Gb. RAM: Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 9.7″, Huawei MediaPad M5 10.8″

– Windows devices: Surface Pro… with the free software BlueStacks Android emulator.

Also note that while the tablet is connected to the camera, you cannot charge most tablets (although some do allow this), so if the event is a long one you might need this solution that allows the tablet to be charged while it is connected.

3.- You need a cable to connect the camera to the Android device.

There are many cables available on Amazon. If your camera has a Mini USB port, then we recommend this cable.

You can also use a Micro USB adapter, and then use the cable that came with your camera.

Setting up funEvent App with DSLR Cameras

Follow these instructions:
1. Download and install the funEvent App from Google Play.
2. Run the App, enter the event name and accept all of the App permissions: – take pictures and record video
– record audio
– access photo and media on your device
– access the device’s location

3. Now plug in the USB OTG cable from your Canon or Nikon DSLR camera into the Android tablet. You should then see the following dialog box (if you don’t, then either your cable or your Android tablet might not be OTG compatible):

page3image15199616

Check the box and then click “OK”.

4. Now click to choose the funEvent App for use with the USB device.

5. Now the tablet/Android device is set up.

Troubleshooting:

If nothing happens when you connect the camera to the tablet when both are on, then either the tablet or the cable might not be OTG compliant.

If everything was working, and you lose connection: unplug the cable and plug it in again to refresh the connection. If that doesn’t work, reboot the tablet and then plug the devices together.

If your camera is set to a very high resolution, the tablet might not be able to pull in the image. If that happens and you see that error message on the screen, lower the resolution on the camera.
